Dream big!
Throughout these two years of preparation, I’ve been dreaming of this moment, when I’ll slowly pull away from the Gran Canaria coast, contemplating the horizon as it takes shape, rowing stroke after rowing stroke, and gradually melting into this ocean tableau of a thousand shades of blue, awakening a sublime pleasure.

To live is to risk!
Some consider this crossing as a story of man above all, of big muscled arms. My parents, but also those who know me, have tried everything – persuasion, dissuasion – to tell me that this dream would turn into a nightmare, at the mercy of solitude, the night, these 5500 kilometers, the whims of the sea and the wind. While from the outside everything looks tiring, uncomfortable and dangerous, I have only one answer for them: you have to love adventure, the sea and give yourself the means to make your dreams come true. I don’t just want to exist, I want to live…
Departure
At the age of 24, bold, pugnacious and determined, I wanted to row across the Atlantic, to be the first woman to dare accomplish such a feat. On March 10, 1998, at 9 a.m. GMT, I left the Canary Islands to row to West Indies.
